Lavender Palm

A few weeks back, John and I attended the launch party for the new Tom Ford private blend, Lavender Palm. By which I mean we spent the evening abusing the free champagne and chocolate.

The fragrance is a celebration of the new Tom Ford flagship boutique in Beverly Hills, and a love letter of sorts to California: a blend of two types of lavender and palm leaves designed to evoke the “sparkling sunlight, natural blossoms and expansive coastlines” of the golden state.

A friend has pointed out that “lavender” is misspelt on the card above. Worse still, they also forgot to spray the Jasmine Rouge cards and there was a terribly awkward, Emperor’s New Clothes moment where half the room was pretending to appreciate the fragrance because they were too embarrassed to admit that they couldn’t smell anything.

(Lovely as this flashy newcomer was, however, I think I’ll be sticking to Tobacco Vanille.)

We got home (slightly the worse for wear, and bags o’ freebies in hand), which is around the time John decided to try one of the other sample fragrances by spraying an entire bottle of it across our bedroom. By no small coincidence, this was the exact same moment I discovered I was allergic to the fragrance in question, and watched in horror as my throat closed to the size of a bendy straw. Needless to say, it will not be gracing my future Christmas lists.
